Our client is looking for an experienced Technical Leader who can lead around 10 Engineers and work with subcontracts to ensure they are delivering work for the Ministry of Defence, so you will need demonstrable leadership experience.
You will also be expected to set the strategic vision for the team, assure work, and design data models in both the cloud and on-prem.
There is a small amount of hands-on Data work involved in this role, so a background within some sort of data role is imperative, but the focus for this role is leadership, strategy and ensuring governance.
This is a hybrid role with 2-3 days per week onsite. The team is split between Southampton and Surrey so no matter which site you are based at, you will need to go to travel to either or both of those locations, at least once per week.
Key responsibilities
- Architect data solutions to move mission data in a deployed environment.
- Assure subcontractors work and ensure data integrity and compliance.
- Lead a team of 10+ technical engineers and provide technical guidance and coaching.
- Design data models in both cloud and on-prem, and eventually grow their data capability further.
- Help Defence customers develop their strategy for data as a strategic asset and define the appropriate level of governance needed and the appropriate processes.
- Communicate the data strategy to non-technical stakeholders and technical experts.
- Define the architecture for data software and analytics solutions, either as standalone engagements or within a larger multi-disciplinary programme environment.
Skills & experience
- Strong leadership experience, with experience managing at least 10 people.
- Strong background in data technologies with the ability to quickly learn new systems and prototype solutions using hands-on experience.
- Experience in Data Architecture and Strategy, particularly in UK Defence or Public Sector.
- Knowledge of structured and unstructured data, and methods to leverage them.
- Worked with Data and Software Engineers to solve complex data problems.
- Experience in Agile frameworks.
- Understanding of cloud vs. traditional system approaches.
- Experience contributing to business development and bids.
- Scrum Master and/or Product Owner experience would be an advantage.
Additional benefits
- Flexi Leave and Flexi Time Scheme.
- Annual Holiday.
- Flexible Benefits.
- Sickness Benefit.
- Business Performance Related Bonus.
- Share Save Plan.
- Pension scheme.
